A night before Holi

It is a night before Holi. Memories are still so alive, as it's just happened yesterday. The celebration was just like a riot of color, everything a little more hyped up than they should be.

Our eyes used to ate up the joy like a feast. After that we used to felt that we were supercharged and her head a little giddy. Everything about the color made her want to dance, her feet moving with grace and her heart beating with joy.

The celebration went on into the night, we used to dance like we had forgotten how to stand still. She wanted us to celebrate with a dance on the feet and a glass of wine in our hand.

I loved them all, I do, but now at this age all I want is to lie naked with her beneath a warm blanket and listen to the beating of her heart.

I dialed her number. Someone picked up call on the other side.

I said – Hello.

A prolonged deep silence and then she whispers – Where were you for so many years….how are you?

It’s more than twenty years that we have been separated from each other….twenty years….still she knows it’s me on the other side of the phone.....
